Books and beyond: New library opens at Lincoln Community Hub

Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive councillor for culture and libraries, officially opens the new library at Boundary Street Hub in Lincoln. She is cutting a ribbon and is surrounded by staff, service users, and balloons.

Next chapter for Boundary Street Hub as a new library joins site’s community facilities.

Visitors to the hub will be able to borrow from a selection of print and audio books and use PCs to browse the internet. With a cosy ‘book nook’ area stocked with children’s titles and an on-site community café, it’s a great place for every generation of reader to visit.

The library at Boundary Street Hub is open five days a week and replaces the previous provision at Bridge Church just around the corner, which closed in September.

It is the latest exciting addition at the site, which also features a wood working studio, shop, and community garden.

Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive councillor for libraries and culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “I’m really pleased that we have stepped in quickly to maintain this important service. It was fantastic to officially open the new site and see the difference it will make to the local community.

“There has never been a better time to join your local library. Whilst they stock a wonderful selection of printed books, their incredible digital offer is sometimes less well known. Simply registering for a free Lincolnshire library card unlocks more than 70,000 eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazine and eNewspapers, and can save you money on costly subscriptions.”

Adults with learning disabilities are successfully leading the hub’s community café and playing an integral role in running the library, drawing on their strengths and talents to enhance the community and be recognised as valued, active contributors.

Cllr Oliver added: “Libraries play an important role in the heart of our communities and Boundary Street Hub is a great example of this in action. It’s brilliant that the library will provide another meaningful opportunity for adults with additional needs to step into the work environment and gain important skills in a friendly and nurturing environment.

“Empowering residents and maintaining an important community service means this is a win-win for local people, and we are not stopping there, there is lots more to come at Boundary Street Hub.”

There are exciting plans to expand the hub, including adding a Swap Shop, where local people can save money by trading pre-loved items.

The Boundary Street Hub is located off Newark Road, Lincoln. The library and café are open from 10am to 5pm Mondays to Wednesdays, and from 10am to 3pm on Thursdays and Fridays.
