Snap of the iconic plane recreated in poppy-form wins 2025’s photography competition.

Visit Lincolnshire and 2Aspire’s first photography competition has announced its winner.

The stunning picture was taken at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC), featuring a backdrop of Lincoln’s skyline and the IBCC’s one-of-a-kind Summer poppy display with a Lancaster Bomber recreated in poppies.

It was a personal connection that brought the winner, who asked to remain nameless, to the IBCC, being one of the many RAF veterans based in Lincolnshire.

Now bursting with a passion for photography, the retired winner has been spurred on to develop his skills further with a photography course at his local college and is exploring routes into the volunteering sector.

Linda Radford, Skills Engagement Officer, said: “It’s fantastic to see that our photography competition has helped light a fire in this gentleman’s heart, and that he’s taking the passion forward to develop his skills even further. It goes to show there are lots of ways to start developing new skills that don’t involve a classroom.

“The competition itself has been great. We’ve seen amazing pictures of our county, and met with dozens of amateur photographers at workshops that ran alongside the competition.

“It’s inspiring that there are so many people out there willing to learn, regardless of age or ability, and we strongly encourage anyone with an interest or passion, or simply just a desire to learn, to do just that - keep learning!”
