Government launches consultation on changes to councils in Greater Lincolnshire

Local government reorganisation consultation is now live

Four proposals have been put forward that cover our area.

The government wants to replace district and county councils with ‘unitary’ authorities instead, including Greater Lincolnshire. Last year, councils were invited to put proposals forward and the government is now consulting on all of them.

Lincolnshire County Council put forward our ‘Your Lincolnshire’ proposal that would see one new unitary authority to replace the current county council and seven district councils. We believe that this is the best and most simple option for reorganising councils in our area, to deliver the best efficiency savings and cause the least disruption to key services – especially children’s and adult care services, and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.

You can see all of the proposals in one place here: www.GreaterLincolnshireLGRhub.org

You can also find copies of all the proposals and get paper copies of the consultation at any council offices and in the main libraries in Lincolnshire. These are: Boston, Bourne, Gainsborough, Grantham, Horncastle, Lincoln Central, Long Sutton, Louth, Mablethorpe, Market Rasen, Skegness, Sleaford, Spalding, Stamford and Woodhall Spa

A decision as to which model will be taken forward is expected later in the year.

The consultation will run for 7 weeks and will close on 26 March.
