County council helps fund and deliver sign language learning.

Lincolnshire County Council’s Adult Skills Programme has launched ‘Introduction to British Sign Language’ as its latest course available through tailored learning funding.

Cllr Liam Kelly, executive councillor for Growth and Veterans' Affairs, said: “Our adult learning team support hundreds of skills development programmes right across the county, and this initiative is the latest in a long line of fantastic courses.

“Sign language is vital for many in our county, including a lot of veterans, who may not have been born deaf, but through their service developed hearing impairments. Developing and maintaining a method of communication with loved ones and services can help reduce isolation and drastically improve quality of life.

“These BSL courses have the real opportunity to have a tangible impact on families, and we’re extremely proud to add these to our learning offer.”

Courses will run through Spring and Summer 2026, with in-person sessions available in Mablethorpe and Grantham, as well as online sessions.
