Can you rise to the Challenge?

Adults with disabilities on supported holiday

Help give adults who require extra support a holiday to remember by taking part in the 100 Challenge.

The 100 Challenge is a series of sponsored activities, running for 30 days from 10 April (the 100th day of the year) to 10 May. The challenge is open to all – you just need a team of eight people, which can include family, friends and colleagues. Clubs and community groups are also welcome to participate.

Your team will face three challenges:

  • 100 miles walking or running
  • Collect 100 pieces of litter per team member
  • Eat 100 pieces/portions of fruit

You’ll be awarded points each time you complete a challenge, and you can also earn bonus points for additional, self-designed 100 challenges.

The money raised will be used by the council’s Community Opportunities team to help fund supported holidays for the adults they work with. Supported holidays are valuable breaks for people who wouldn’t be able to go away without additional support.

The council already funds a wide range of activities throughout the year but is always looking to do more and create new opportunities. The funds raised during the challenge will be used to help cover the cost of the specialist care so even more people can enjoy a safe and happy holiday of their choice.

Cllr Steve Clegg, Executive Member for Adult Care and Health, said: “It can be difficult for some people to take a holiday because of the cost of the extra support they’d need. The 100 Challenge is a chance for the community to come together and help make the holiday of their dreams a reality.

“The challenges are designed to improve the health and wellbeing of those taking part or benefit the wider community, meaning they make a real difference. And we also have prizes for the teams earning the most points, coming up with the most innovative challenges and showing the best team spirit.”
