The biggest-ever exhibition of award-winning photographer Andrew Scott’s work opens at Lincoln Castle on Friday 3 April.

Andrew has been capturing Lincoln at its beautiful best for the past decade – from the towering presence of the city’s castle and cathedral and picture-postcard streets, to the hustle and bustle of events and the magical moments in the quiet corners between.

Now, visitors can enjoy more than 50 of Andrew’s favourite photographs up close in the castle’s Victorian Prison.

The hand-picked selection of images – called ‘A Modern Chronicle’ – celebrates Lincoln’s architectural beauty, the glow of the city from golden hour to nightfall, and the magic of the changing seasons.

One of the exhibition’s many highlights are a series of pictures showing two adorable foxes playing in the snow in the grounds of Lincoln Cathedral; a beautiful moment that captured the hearts of the city when it was shared on social media earlier this year.

Another featured image - ‘After Dark – Magical Uphill Lincoln’ - shows the Magna Carta pub and glowing sunset on the cobbles of Castle Hill, and won the prestigious 2026 London Camera Exchange People's Choice Award last month.

Ahead of the exhibition’s opening, Andrew said: “I’m incredibly excited and proud to have my photographs on display at Lincoln Castle. Being Lincoln born and bred, this city has always been a huge part of who I am, and it means so much to be able to celebrate it through my work.

“Lincoln’s rich history, character, and beauty have always inspired me, and I love capturing the details that make it so special. To have the opportunity to showcase those moments in such an iconic setting feels truly surreal. It’s an honour to share my perspective of this amazing city and highlight everything that makes historic Lincoln so unique and meaningful to me.”

The photography exhibition joins the castle’s action-packed programme, ‘The Chronicles of Lincoln Castle’, inspired by the incredible characters, stories and documents that have shaped the site’s history. Kim Vickers, Culture Service Manager at Lincolnshire County Council, explains:

“This year we’re shining a light on the stories connected to our magnificent castle over the last 1,000 years, from great knights and inspirational heroines like William Marshall and Nicola de la Haye, to the prisoners who served time here, right through to modern-day visitors. All these people have powerful stories to tell, that continue to shape the castle’s history to this day.

“Our events programme has also been inspired by one of the most important chronicles in our history, the Chronica Majora, which we are proud to display alongside Magna Carta in the Castle vault. This 13th century manuscript was written by one of medieval England’s great storytellers, Matthew Paris, and describes the 1217 Battle of Lincoln, which took place just steps away from the vault, some 809 years ago.

“Fast-forward hundreds of years and as a modern-day chronicler, Andrew Scott documents Lincoln and its people through the camera lens. This exhibition of his stunning photography reveals a city full of character, of cobbled streets and open skies, and moments of colour, contrast and quiet beauty across the year.

“I hope everyone enjoys their visit to Lincoln Castle this year and writes their name onto the exciting next chapter of this incredible place.”

Entry to the Modern Chronicle photography exhibition is free for annual pass holders and included in the price of a castle day ticket.
