Surface water drainage works for Toynton St Peter

Surface water drainage is getting an £800,000 set of works to increase local capacity

Cllr Danny Brookes, Executive member for Environment at Lincolnshire County Council said: "I am delighted that we can deliver these improvements for Toynton St Peter.

“The work will be done in six phases to effectively bring better drainage to the entire village. It’s not going to be a small job, it’ll last around 19 weeks in total which is why we’re breaking up the jobs into six parts. By doing this we can reduce the amount of traffic disruption to the local area and keep things moving in and around the village.

“We’re doing the work after our investigations showed that the existing surface water drainage network within the village is in a very poor and unmaintainable condition. We found out that there is insufficient capacity to suitably deal with long periods of intense rainfall which leaves the village at risk from surface water flooding.”

Location of works

The works will be carried out from Fenside Road through to Eastville Road, Chapel Lane and Church Lane.

Dates and times

The works will begin on Monday 20 April for approximately 19 weeks with a planned end date of Friday 4 September 2026. Working hours will be 7.30am until 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. No weekend work is expected.

Traffic management

  • A diversion route for Fenside Road will be in place for approximately three weeks for Phase One of the works.

  • A second diversion route will be in place for Eastville Road for approximately eleven weeks for phases two, three and four of the works.

  • It is anticipated that the road closures will only be in place Monday to Friday and roads re-opened at the weekends, if it is deemed safe to do so.

  • Traffic management will be in place, including two and three-way traffic lights, and narrowed lanes for the other phases of the works and where road closures are not required.

Diversion routes

  • Phase one: Fenside Road (expected to run from April 20 to May 12 – subject to change) will be: Main Road, A16, Fen Road, Fenside Road

  • Phase two: Eastville Road (expected to run from May 13 to June 2 – subject to change) will be: Main Road, A16, Horbling Lane, Midville Road, Spilsby Road, Fen Road, Eastville Road

  • Phase three: Eastville Road East (expected to run from June 3 to June 30 – subject to change) will be: Main Road, A16, Horbling Lane, Midville Road, Spilsby Road, Fen Road, Eastville Road

  • Phase four: Eastville Road South (expected to run from June 30 to July 31 – subject to change) will be: Main Road, A16, Horbling Lane, Midville Road, Spilsby Road, Fen Road, Eastville Road

  • Phase five: Chapel Lane - No road closures, just narrowed lanes and traffic lights

  • Phase six: Church Lane - No road closures, just narrowed lanes and traffic lights

Cllr Brookes added: “These works will see a replacement and increase in capacity to the existing surface water system along with the introduction of new gullies, kerbing, surfacing, and watercourse cleansing which will significantly reduce the surface water flood risk within the village.

“We’re spending in excess of £800,000 to put these measures in place and while these works will take some time to bring in, the end result will see a drastic uplift in drainage performance.

“I would like to thank everyone affected for their patience and understanding whilst we are delivering these improvements to Toynton St Peter.”
