A project transforming the lives of Gainsborough children has been nationally recognised as a potential model for improving the lives of young people across the country.

Originally launched in 2023 by Lincolnshire County Council, the Gainsborough Aspiration Project has brought together more than 80 local partners, including West Lindsey District Council, to help local schools build better relationships with public services, businesses and community organisations. It is designed to address the challenges faced by families, focusing on priority areas like education, health and employment.

This has led to more comprehensive support for those who need it, helping improve outcomes for young people in some of Gainsborough’s most deprived areas.

The project has now been shortlisted for the UKREiiF’s One Big Idea Initiative, which champions the UK’s best innovative and creative thinking and the impact this is having.

Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive member for children’s services, said: “One of the council’s main priorities is ensuring all children get a good start in life. The Gainsborough Aspiration Project has made a real difference to the thousands of young people taking part, putting them on a path to a happier, healthier, more successful life. I’m delighted to see the hard work of all involved recognised in this way and hope it will inspire other areas to follow our lead, improving things for thousands of other young people across the country.”

An aspiration project is also underway in Skegness, and others are planned to start in Lincoln, Boston and South Holland in future.
