Minor repairs will be carried out for up to one week this month.
Sam Edwards, head of highways infrastructure, said: “We have a technical laboratory that always carries out tests to ensure newly-laid road surfacing meets the high standards we expect.
“Unfortunately, some of the surfacing that’s been laid in the Newland area hasn’t met our stringent quality requirements and has started to fail.
“As a result, the contractor will be replacing this as part of our contract with them, at their own cost.”
The works will start on Monday 18 May for up to one week.
As part of this, Newland will be closed from 7pm to 6am on Monday 18 and Wednesday 20 May. Please note, no access will be available to Lucy Tower Street, including the car park, during these times. The contractor will provide access for vehicles leaving the car park after 7pm.
The Carholme Road / Brayford Way junction (including Carholme Road up to Westbourne Grove) will be closed from 7pm to 6am on Tuesday 19 and Thursday 21 May.
The diversion routes will be as follows:
- Newland – Brayford Way / Rope Walk / Pelham Bridge / Wigford Way, and vice versa
- Carholme Road – via the A46 / Riseholme Road roundabout / Yarborough Road / The Avenue, and vice versa
Sam continued: “Repairing these defects now will not only save the council money and time in the future, but it will prevent further disruption down the line.
“Because these works will inevitably cause some disruption, I want to thank everyone in advance for bearing with us.”
