Dementia Action Week 2026

This week is Dementia Action Week, the ideal time to find out about all the services and resources available to support those living with the condition.

Dementia Action Week is an awareness campaign led by the Alzheimer’s Society, aiming to raise awareness of dementia by bringing communities together, improving knowledge and sharing stories.

Dementia describes a set of symptoms that, over time, can affect memory, problem-solving, completion of daily tasks, language and behaviour. In Lincolnshire, a range of local organisations, including Lincolnshire County Council, offer a wide range of support for those living with dementia.

This includes advice on how technology and equipment can help make life easier and safer around the home, and tips for maintaining good brain health to reduce your risk of dementia. There is also support for those caring for someone with dementia, with the Lincolnshire Carers Service offering unpaid carers, 1-2-1 practical and emotional support.

Cllr Steve Clegg, executive member for adult care and health, said: “There’s a wide range of support for those living with dementia available locally, and Dementia Action Week is the perfect opportunity to find out more.

“Although there’s already a lot of help out there, there’s always room for improvement. We've been working with partners on a new Lincolnshire Dementia Strategy. This will help to ensure that, moving forward, services are joined up, meet people’s needs and offer good value for money.

“We’re confident that this more collaborative approach will do a better job of helping those who need it and will allow the council and its partners to successfully deal with the ever-growing demand for services, even at a time of ongoing financial pressures.”

People across Lincolnshire consistently tell us that it’s the way our staff connect with individuals and families living with dementia that makes the biggest difference.

One person who has benefited from support said: “My mother was diagnosed with dementia… but the support we received made such a difference. Instead of feeling like another assessment, the practitioner spoke with her in a calm, natural way, helping her feel part of the conversation again. It meant so much to see her engaged and respected.”

You can find a Dementia Action Week webpage on Connect Support Lincolnshire, containing information on services and resources available to those living with and impacted by dementia.
