Emergency repair works underway on Tritton Road

A damaged signal pole at Tritton

The pedestrian crossing has been damaged in a traffic collision

Emergency repair works are underway on Tritton Road at the catchwater drain bridge after a pedestrian crossing pole was badly damaged after being hit by a vehicle. The impact has left the equipment unsafe and a LCC Highways crew engineers have moved quickly to secure the area for pedestrians.

Anthony Gent, Principle Engineer Traffic Signals at the county council said: “The damaged pole was fixed into an older polebox fitting, which will take a few days to replace.

“As part of the repair, a new steel socket is being installed with the benefit being that this is the current standard used across the county and will make any future repairs quicker and less disruptive. Essentially, the crossing is getting an upgrade and will be more economical and more reliable.

“These works had originally been planned for later in the year but because the equipment was already prepared for that job, and the collision created an immediate safety issue, the decision was taken to bring the work forward. This avoids returning to the site again and means disruption for the area now will only happen once.”

How long will the work take?

Emergency work began on 18 May 2026 and is expected to finish by Friday 22 May. The permanent pedestrian crossing is due to be fully operational by 29 May. No weekend work is planned but there will be some disruption to local traffic flow.

Working hours

Temporary signals are operating 24-hours a day while the repairs take place. Engineers are on site between 9am and 4pm. A temporary pedestrian facility is in place so people can continue to cross safely.

Access for residents and businesses

There are no access issues for nearby homes or businesses. All properties remain reachable throughout the works.
