UPDATE: Sinkhole FIXED! West End Road, Wyberton is back and open as usual

repaired sinkhole at Wyberton

West End Road in Wyberton is open again and operating as normal after a sinkhole that appeared last week has been repaired

Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways team has completed repair works that included removing the wet and loose materialm  exposing the utilities and drainage systems underneath and then checking on everything to see if a failure of any pipes or structures had cause the issue.

Early checks showed the council’s surface water drainage was fully intact. Anglian Water were then called in to camera their own pipes and chambers. Their system was also found to be working as it should, leaving no clear cause behind the collapse.

Ashley Behan, Traffic Manager at LCC, said: "When something like this happens you strip it right back and check every part of the structure. We dug out the loose material, exposed the utilities and drainage and went through each section to make sure nothing had broken. Both our drainage and Anglian Water’s were in full working order which meant there was no obvious fault sitting underneath the road."

With no single issue to point to, the team rebuilt the road from the bottom up. All weakened old sub‑base material was removed and replaced before the area was rebuilt with new material, concrete and a new surface layer.

The road has now reopened but the council says it will not be leaving the matter there.

Ashley Behan added: "Because we could not identify a clear cause we will be monitoring the area closely. If anything happens again we will go straight back in and carry out a deeper investigation. The priority is keeping the road safe for everyone who uses it."
