UPDATE - Outer Circle Road sinkhole

Some more things have happened today that you need to be aware of

Following reports on the sinkhole that opened up on Outer Circle Road yesterday, we can tell you that further investigations have taken place on site today after latest developments.

Our engineers excavated the sinkhole yesterday and it was dry, however overnight water has appeared in the hole causing engineers to question nearby Anglian Water apparatus.

As a result, a CCTV survey of the nearby sewer has now been carried out. That has revealed a collapsed section of pipe, which is likely to be a contributing factor in what has happened.

Anglian Water is now going to carry out further investigations overnight tonight, which will include clean and foul water pipes, so that the actual condition of the underground network is known before repairs begin.

We will update you tomorrow when the plan for what happens next is decided.

Thank you for your patience. We appreciate your understanding whilst we work with Anglian Water to resolve this issue safely.

What this means for Outer Circle Road

The current traffic management stays the same:

  • Outer Circle Road is still closed to northbound traffic
