UPDATE: Outer Circle Road, Lincoln

Anglian Water emergency works underway.

Anglian Water are on site for the next stage of work to the damaged sewer beneath the Outer Circle Road and Greetwell Road junction.

They are setting up equipment to stop the flow in the sewer, ahead of night‑time working.

Crews were on site from 7pm last night until 6am this morning to jet, camera and assess the condition of the pipe. During that work they found more than one location where the pipe had collapsed. And even with the extra problems discovered, Anglian Water are still on target to finish the pipe repairs tonight.

Because of the layout of the junction, these ongoing works require four‑way temporary traffic lights to manage traffic.

The two pedestrian crossings on Greetwell Road and Outer Circle Road are now switched off during the night‑time works. Signs are in place to direct pedestrians to an alternative crossing nearby. Two LCC Highways traffic management staff will be on site throughout the night to help with traffic flow and pedestrians when needed.

If the relining works by AW goes ahead as planned tonight, daytime Highways crews are provisionally booked for Friday, Saturday and Sunday to backfill and complete the reinstatement.

It’s worth noting that the current extreme heat is slowing down the reinstatement part of the job. Materials like concrete and tarmac need longer to set in these extremely high temperatures, so the layers used have to go down in separate stages over a longer time period.

At this stage, the most realistic timeline is more night‑time works tonight, with the junction returning to the current daytime setup (lane closure on Outer Circle Road) during the day. After that, it is likely to take another two days to reinstate the area and clear the site.

The provisional plan has an estimated completion of Monday morning, although this could change if anything unexpected appears during the remaining programme.

We will provide a further update tomorrow once the overnight assessment is complete.
