Essential works are finishing early thanks to hard work by the specialist crew onsite
Adam Round, Head of Highways Design Services at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "We are pleased to confirm that the essential works to extend the culvert beneath Meadow Lane are now set to finish ahead of schedule, improving the structure and helping to prevent future deterioration."
Location of works
The works have taken place on Meadow Lane in North Hykeham, around 250 metres south-east of Sharp Walk. The culvert passes beneath the carriageway at the location shown on the supplied map.
Dates and times
The works began on Thursday, July 23 and were originally scheduled to finish on Tuesday, August 25. However, due to favourable dry weather conditions and efficiencies achieved during construction, the scheme is now expected to be completed ahead of schedule.
Meadow Lane is expected to reopen by the afternoon of Wednesday, August 19.
Traffic management
The full road closure currently in place between Brant Road and Sharp Walk will remain until the site has been cleared and made safe for reopening. Access to properties along the road has been maintained throughout the scheme.
Diversion route
The signed diversion route remains: Brant Road/Newark Road/Hykeham Road/Lincoln Road/Chapel Lane and vice versa, until the road is reopened.
Adam Round added: "The scheme has successfully delivered a verge width of 2.3 metres, which ties in well with the surrounding open ditches along Meadow Lane. This exceeds current standards and will include a white timber parapet to improve visibility of the structure. Thanks to the dry conditions and slight changes to the temporary works method, we have been able to progress the scheme more quickly than anticipated and finish earlier than planned.
"Plant and equipment are due to be removed from site, followed by final sweeping and clearance works, allowing the road to reopen as soon as possible.
"I'd like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while these improvements have been carried out. We're delighted to be able to return the road to normal use ahead of schedule."
