Standing water issues are being sorted in the area

Cllr Danny Brookes, executive member for the Environment at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "These works are being carried out to tackle the long‑standing surface water problems on Fiskerton Road and Waterford Lane. Flooding has affected homes here several times in recent years, and this scheme will upgrade the drainage network so it can cope better with heavy rainfall.

“A great deal of investigation and design work has gone into understanding the issues, and this project will give the area a much more resilient system for the future.”

Location of works

The scheme will begin at the junction of Fiskerton Road and Waterford Lane. Crews will carry out watercourse improvements in the grass verge and install a new box culvert under Fiskerton Road, with further drainage upgrades continuing along the southern highway boundary up to Cherry Fields.

The project will then move further up Waterford Lane to install a new drainage bypass system running from the open watercourse at the rear of properties 65 and 67 through to the existing drainage system within the highway. This part of the works will also see the rehabilitation of the existing drainage assets at the rear of the properties.

Dates and times

Work will start on Monday 20 July with a planned completion date of Friday 30 October 2026. Working hours will be 7.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. No weekend work is currently expected. However, weekend working could be utilised to ensure the programme delivery stays on track.

Traffic management

A series of phased road closures will be required to carry out the works safely:

  • Fiskerton Road, just west of Waterford Lane, will be closed from 23 July to 15 August. Access from Lincoln to Fenland Hideaway will be maintained. Waterford Lane will remain open from the Fiskerton direction
  • Fiskerton Road between Waterford Lane and Laburnum Drive will be closed from 17 August to 2 September. Waterford Lane will remain open from the Lincoln direction
  • Waterford Lane outside numbers 65 and 67 will be closed from 3 September to 25 September. Temporary traffic signals will be used where possible to shorten the closure period. Fiskerton Road will remain open during this phase.

Road closures will be in place at all times. Access to individual properties will be maintained, although vehicles may need to approach from a specific direction depending on the location of the works.

Cllr Danny Brookes added: “The scheme includes installing a new box culvert, widening the existing ditch and creating a new drainage bypass system on Waterford Lane. These improvements will increase capacity and bring the network up to modern standards.

“We have planned the phases carefully to keep disruption as low as possible, including carrying out the Fiskerton Road closure during the school summer holidays. Access to homes will be maintained throughout, and our contractor will stay in close contact with residents while the work is underway.

“I would like to thank everyone for their patience while we deliver this important scheme for the village.”
