A1031 in North Cotes set for a rebuild

North Cotes PRN Road Reconstruction

A 2km section of the A1031 in North Cotes will be reconstructed this summer.

Cllr Bayleigh Robinson, executive support councillor for highways and county councillor for Saltfleet and the Cotes, said: “This essential project will see the entire A1031 carriageway between Louth Canal and Sheep Marsh Lane rebuilt.

"The A1031 is an essential route connecting Cleethorpes to Mablethorpe, a crucial connection between our seaside towns in Lincolnshire. We are investing in it because we understand its importance to the local economy.

“This won’t be a small project. In fact, we’ll be using over 7,000 tonnes of road-building materials to rebuild and recycling 3,000 tonnes of excavated carriageway as part of the scheme.

“To make the most of the traffic management we’ll have in place, the team will also be carrying out some necessary footway clearance works; drainage improvements; and verge marker posts replacements.

“By carrying out full reconstruction rather than a series of temporary repairs, we can significantly extend the life of the road, reducing the need for future maintenance and the disruption that comes with it.

“The improvements will provide a safer, more reliable route for residents, businesses, commuters and visitors for many years to come, along with noticeably smoother drives and improved safety for drivers along this stretch of the A1031.”

Dates and timeframes

Monday 27 July for up to seven weeks

Location of works

From Louth Canal to Sheep Marsh Lane

Traffic management

24-hour road closure, weekdays only – the road will be open during weekends

Diversion route

Via the A16 / B1200 / A1031, and vice versa

Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services throughout the duration of the works.

Cllr Robinson added: “We understand that road closures can be inconvenient, and I want to thank residents and motorists for their patience while these essential improvements are carried out in the coming weeks.

“When the works are complete, residents and motorists will notice a smoother, more comfortable journey, while the reconstruction will help reduce the likelihood of defects and unplanned repairs in the future. That means a more reliable road and less disruption over the longer term.”

This scheme is part of a £12 million programme focused on maintaining the county’s key strategic routes and ensuring they remain safe and reliable for everyone who uses them. Among the road being improved this financial year are the A15, A151, A57, A1031, A606 and B1174 – key routes that carry the highest traffic volumes and are vital for connecting communities, businesses and economic centres across the county.
