Created to celebrate 50 years of the Viking Way in 2026, the FREE list highlights some of the amazing places, landmarks, wildlife and points of interest that can be found along Lincolnshire's long-distance walking route. It encourages walkers to look beyond the path ahead and discover the stories, history and natural features that make the trail so special.
Debby Braund, Countryside Access and Community Projects Officer at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "Parents tell us the sheets make a huge difference. Kids stop dragging their feet. They start spotting things and they take the lead.
"It turns the walk into something shared rather than something they're being dragged along for. The aim of the sheets was always to make the Viking Way feel open to everyone.
"You don't need to be a seasoned walker either, you just need a bit of curiosity. The sheets do the rest."

Alongside the FREE 50 Things list, families can download a series of FREE I-Spy sheets to print and take with them while exploring the Viking Way or their local countryside. Children with a keen eye can search for wildlife, landscapes, buildings, trees and rights of way as they walk.
The activities are designed to help younger walkers engage with the world around them, whether they're spotting a particular bird, identifying a tree, finding a stile or discovering an interesting building along the route. The sheets encourage children to take the lead, turning a walk into a shared adventure rather than a race to reach the finish.
The best part is that both ABSOLUTELY FREE activities can be used on any stretch of the Viking Way. Whether you're heading out for a short circular walk or tackling a longer section of the trail, there is always something new to discover.
