The work will give the roads years more life
Concrete road improvements are being carried out on several residential streets in Skegness as part of Lincolnshire County Council’s programme to renew and repair ageing concrete roads across the county.
The first part of a 13-road scheme is underway on Beresford Avenue, Beresford Crescent, Beresford Close and Beckett Close in Skegness. The work will give these well used streets a smoother and more reliable surface for years to come.
Location of works
Beresford Avenue between Sandbeck Avenue and the end of the road, along with the full lengths of Beresford Crescent, Beresford Close and Beckett Close.
Dates and times
Concrete repairs began on 5th August and have a planned completion date of Tuesday, 2nd September. Surfacing work will follow from Monday 7th September until the 17th with final works to complete the road scheduled to happen between the 24th and 29th of September. All activity is taking place Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 5.30pm.
Traffic management
No diversion route is required for these works. Access for residents and businesses is being maintained wherever it is safe to do so. Short sections of carriageway may remain fenced off while fresh concrete cures. This is a necessary safety measure and ensures the repaired slabs reach full strength before traffic drives across them.
Cllr David East, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at LCC said: “This is a serious type of road repair that involves replacing the top layer of the carriageway and carrying out structural repairs to damaged concrete pads where needed.
“Crews will also return to complete saw cutting and sealing at joint locations once the surfacing has settled. These steps help protect the road from future deterioration and reduce the need for more extensive repairs later on.
“The county-wide scheme on 13 sites will need an investment of around £632,000. Once complete, road users can expect improved ride quality, better skid resistance and a noticeable reduction in traffic noise. The improvements will help extend the life of the road and reduce the need for larger repairs in future.
“There will be some minor disruption whilst these works are happening, and our crews will do everything possible to keep that disruption to a minimum. I’d like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience while we deliver this work to Skegness.”
