Loads of concrete works across the county mean benefits for road users – here's the details for scheme number 2
The second part of a 13-road scheme across the county to improve concrete roads will be happening on Somersby Way and Somersby Green in Boston later this month.
As part of Lincolnshire County Council’s extensive programme to renew and repair concrete roads across the county, the second phase will mean a smoother and more resilient road surface for residents and help prevent more significant deterioration in future.
Location of works
The full lengths of Somersby Way and Somersby Green.
Dates and times
Concrete repairs will take place on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st of August. Surfacing work is due to follow between August 26th and 28th, with post jointing scheduled for the 18th of September. All work is being carried out Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:30 with no weekend work planned.
Traffic management
A phased work programme is in place to maintain access wherever possible throughout the scheme. Local diversion routes will be introduced and adjusted as required with short sections of carriageway possibly fenced off while fresh concrete cures. This is essential to ensure that the repaired slabs reach full strength before traffic drives over them.
About the work
The scheme includes replacing the top 40mm of road material in a single layer, carrying out slab replacement where structural issues are found and returning to complete saw cutting and sealing at joint locations once the surfacing has settled. These steps help protect the road from future wear and reduce the need for larger repairs later on.
Cllr David East, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at LCC said: “This part of the scheme is an investment into the local road network of around £89,000.
“Once complete, road users can expect improved ride quality, better skid resistance and a reduction in traffic noise and the improvements will help extend the life of the road too.
"This is practical investment that supports safer and more comfortable everyday journeys. We will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience while we deliver these improvements for Boston.”
