Concrete carriageway improvements are being carried out on Knipe Avenue in Spalding as part of Lincolnshire County Council’s wider programme to renew and repair concrete roads across the county.

The work will provide a smoother and more dependable surface for residents and help prevent significant deterioration in future.

Location of works

The full length of Knipe Avenue.

Dates and times

Concrete repairs will take place between Monday 24th and Wednesday 26th August. Surfacing work followed from Wednesday 2nd to Friday 4th September, with post jointing scheduled for Tuesday the 22nd of September. All work is being carried out Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:30 with no weekend working planned.

Traffic management

A signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works. One lane of the carriageway is being kept open wherever possible to maintain traffic flow. Deep excavations may require short periods of full closure, and brief delays should be expected. Sections of the road may remain fenced off while fresh material cures to ensure the repairs reach full strength before traffic drives across them.

About the works

This specialist set of work that’s unique to concrete roads includes replacing the top 40mm of road material in a single layer, carrying out the concrete slab replacement where structural issues are found and returning to complete saw cutting and sealing at joint locations once the surfacing has settled. These steps help protect the road from future wear and reduce the need for larger repairs later on. In this location, tarmac is being used for the concrete repair phase to speed up the process and shorten the overall duration of the works.

Cllr David East, Executive Member for Highways and Transport said: “At around £60,000 for this stretch, our work represents a sizeable investment into the local road network.

Once completed, road users can expect improved ride quality, better skid resistance and a reduction in traffic noise. The improvements will also help extend the life of the road and support the long-term condition of the local road network.

This is practical investment that supports safer and more comfortable everyday journeys for the people who live and travel here. We will do everything possible to get these works completed quickly and reduce disruption to a minimum.

I’d like to thank everyone effected for their patience and understanding whilst we deliver this improvement for Spalding.”
