Newlands in Gainsborough is next in line for the latest phase in the improvement works.
Location of works
Gainsborough is getting the scheme that see the full length of Newlands resurfaced, alongside repairs to sections of concrete carriageway showing signs of structural deterioration. It’s happening as part of Lincolnshire County Council's programme to upgrade concrete roads across the county.
As part of the project, the top 40mm of the existing road surface will be removed and replaced. Areas requiring deeper structural repairs will also be rebuilt before the new surface is laid.
Dates and times
Work is due to get under way on Friday, September 4th, with concrete repairs and resurfacing taking place until Monday, September 7th. Teams will then return on Wednesday, September 23rd to carry out post-jointing work, which involves cutting and sealing joints in the new surface. All works will take place between 7.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday with no weekend works planned.
Traffic management
A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the scheme. Residents and businesses will be able to access their properties wherever possible, although some delays are likely while work is taking place.
To help keep the programme as short as possible, repair works will be carried out using tarmac rather than concrete. Some sections of carriageway will need to remain fenced off while deeper excavations are completed and made safe. The works have been planned so one lane can remain open wherever possible, although there may be short periods when delays are unavoidable.
Councillor David East, executive member for highways and transport at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "This scheme is a £68,000 investment in Newlands and will improve conditions for everyone who uses the road.
"Concrete roads need a different approach to maintenance of more usual types of roads, and by carrying out these repairs now we can help prevent more significant issues developing in the future.
"When the work is complete, drivers will notice a smoother surface, better grip and less road noise. It will be a marked improvement and I'm delighted that we can get this job done for the people that use this road regularly."
