Today, Thursday 1 October, is the International Day of Older People, an opportunity to say thank you for the major contribution they make to our communities.
This year’s theme is What’s On Your Doorstep? and we want your help to shine a light on those ‘hidden gems’ that can help older people across Lincolnshire to thrive. This could be a community venue, a local group or club, event or service that helps people to stay connected, active and age well.
Cllr Steve Clegg, Executive Councillor for Adult Care and Health for Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Older people make a major contribution to our communities. They are more likely to provide unpaid care and take on volunteer roles, and they make up a third of the workforce. However, their contribution can often be overlooked. The International Day of Older People is our chance to say thank you for all they do.
“We know that many older people would like to be more involved in their local community but often face barriers in doing so. However, there are so many incredible community venues and groups out there working to help keep them at the heart of our communities. The International Day of Older People is an opportunity for you to shine a spotlight on your local recommendations and make sure everyone knows about the hidden gems right on their doorstep.”
