Cycle to School Week rides out across the county, with schools, pupils and families being encouraged to get active and leave the car at home where they can.

Running throughout the week, the national campaign highlights the benefits of cycling to school while showcasing some of the projects already helping young people travel more actively across the county.

One of this week's headline activities is Bling Your Bike Day, giving schools involved in the Living Streets WOW Walk to School programme the chance to win a Scootfit Day. Pupils are being encouraged to decorate their bikes, get creative and celebrate travelling to school in style.

The week will also see the county's Active Travel Team visit four schools to provide free bike marking sessions. Bikes will be added to the UK's national cycle registration scheme, helping owners protect their property and making it easier for police to identify and recover stolen bicycles.

Cycle to School Week also provides an opportunity to highlight the continued growth of the WOW Walk to School programme in Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire County Council is offering a limited number of schools fully funded places on the year-long challenge, which rewards children for walking, wheeling, cycling or scooting to school. Schools taking part have seen more pupils travelling actively and fewer cars outside the school gates. Schools that are not eligible for funded places can still take part through the wider WOW programme.

The week also shines a light on the success of Bikeability training across Lincolnshire. During the 2025/26 academic year, 5,488 young people aged between seven and 18 completed Bikeability training. Of those, 4,467 took part in Level 2 training, learning the skills and confidence needed to ride safely on local roads.

Councillor Natalie Oliver, Executive member for Children's Services at Lincolnshire County Council said: "Cycle to School Week is a chance to get more young people thinking about how they travel to school and the benefits that come with being active every day.

"We've already got some fantastic work happening in schools across Lincolnshire through programmes like WOW and Bikeability, and this week is a great opportunity to showcase that."

Councillor David East, Executive member for Highways and Transport at Lincolnshire County Council added: "Learning to cycle safely, building confidence on the roads and choosing active travel where possible can have a lasting impact on young people. It can also help cut congestion outside schools and make those journeys safer for everyone.

"I hope schools, pupils and parents make the most of what's on offer this week and get involved."
