Cllr Michael Brookes, the new county council chairman, will be focusing on supporting the county's recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and helping regenerate the local economy.
He was elected as the new chairman for Lincolnshire County Council during a virtual AGM of the full council on Friday 26 June. The previous chairman, Cllr Tony Bridges will support him as his deputy.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the meeting took place via video call. Last year, Cllr Brookes served as Cllr Bridges' vice chairman, so the pair are exchanging roles.
Cllr Brookes lives in Swineshead and represents Boston Rural. He has served with the authority for 11 years. The appointment makes him the 35th chairman in the council's history.
He has been blown away by the people of Lincolnshire's response to the virus.
"Over the past few months, it has been amazing to see the work of the county's key workers, carers, community groups and individuals. They have worked so hard to ensure that those who need help get the support they need during these times. There has been a real sense of community spirit.
"In my year as chairman, I would like to support the recovery from Covid-19 and to see Lincolnshire businesses and community groups go from strength to strength."
Cllr Brookes will be supported during his term of office by his wife and Chairman's Lady, Jackie.
Cllr Brookes' chosen charities for the year are Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and LIVES. He looks forward to supporting them during his year in office
