Grantham Southern Relief Road update – Bridge beams installation taking place in July

Sixteen 14+ tonne bridge beams will be delivered and lifted into place at the beginning of the month.

What we achieved in June

  • Completed pile cropping and commenced reinforced concrete works to underpass
  • Completed current phase of earthworks and top soiling
  • Continued drainage works to the eastern roundabout and commenced drainage to the western roundabout
  • Started ducting works on the eastern roundabout
  • Continued archaeological works for Phase Three east of the railway
  • Carried out geotechnical trial holes and ecological surveying for Phase Three

What's happening in July

  • Lift bridge beams into place to the west of the A1 over three evenings
  • Continue bridge deck works
  • Continue drainage and ducting works to the eastern and western roundabouts
  • Carry out drainage tie-ins to the northbound and southbound A1
  • Carry out signage surveying works along the A1 verges
  • Continue archaeological works for Phase Three east of the railway

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Northbound A1 carriageway closure from 8pm to 6am on the evenings of 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th July
  • The diversion route for the northbound A1 closure will be via:
    • Westbound A606 at Stamford past Empingham / Whitwell / Oakham / Langham to the A607 at Melton Mowbray
    • Northbound A607 at Melton Mowbray past Waltham on the Wolds / Croxton Kerrial / Harlaxton back onto the northbound A1
  • Southbound lane closure from 8pm to 6am on the evenings of 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th July

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • 50mph speed limit and narrowed lanes on the A1 between Harlaxton to Little Ponton
