Work will start on Monday 9 November to replace the traffic lights at the junction of Horseshoe Road and South Drove.
The old traffic lights at the junction on both sides of the South Drove Drain – which have been in place since 2001 – will be replaced with new, ultra-low voltage LED equipment to drastically reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of the lights.
Work is expected to take five weeks, during which time Horseshoe Bridge will be closed to allow the work to be carried out safely. Temporary traffic lights will also be in place.
Access will be maintained at all times for pedestrians and cyclists. Traffic will be diverted along the A151 Bourne Road, Hawthorn Bank, B1172 Spalding Common/Little London and South Drove to avoid the bridge closure.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said:
"Just as your phone or laptop might need replacing as technology moves on, the same is true for traffic lights. They have a longer lifespan than most tech, but these near Spalding have reached the end of their maintainable use. We want our roads to be as safe as possible for all our roads users, so we're bringing the lights at this junction up to standard.
"Thanks to residents for bearing with us whilst we make these upgrades. Once work is completed, the lights should last another 25 years."
