Grantham Southern Relief Road update – Night-time A1 closures planned for April

The southbound A1 will be closed overnight until early May.

What we achieved in March

Phase Two

  • Continued drainage works and earthworks across the entire site
  • Installed kerbs at the western roundabout
  • Surfaced the western roundabout and its slip roads
  • Poured concrete for the new bridge connecting the A1/B1174

What's happening in April

Phase Two

  • Continue drainage works across the entire site
  • Lay surfacing for the eastern roundabout's slip roads
  • Begin signage and street light installation
  • Begin earthworks for the landscaped areas of site
  • Begin construction of wingwalls for the new A1/B1174 connection
  • Carry out drainage and ducting works / install street lighting and signage / carry out surface water channel works on the A1

Phase Three

  • Begin stripping top soil across the entire site
  • Continue haul road construction and B174 ramp works
  • Carry out spring intercept drainage installation
  • Continue post-excavation archaeological reporting

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Full night-time closure on the southbound A1 between Harlaxton and Little Ponton from 8pm to 6am
    • Tuesday 6 April to Friday 7 May
      • Diversion via the B1174 through Grantham rejoicing the A1 at Little Ponton
  • Occasional off-peak lane restrictions on the B1174 roundabout, as needed

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • 50mph speed limit and narrowed lanes on the A1 between Harlaxton to Little Ponton
