A46 Dunholme/Welton Roundabout update – Vehicles now using northern half of roundabout

What we achieved in March

  • Removed over 1,100 tonnes of old road
  • Laid remaining kerbs on the south-side of the roundabout and towards Lincoln
  • Laid new layers of tarmac on the approaches/exits from the north-side of the new roundabout
  • Opened north-side of new roundabout under temporary signals
  • Re-cutting and shaping works to the southern ditch
  • Continued building the shared cycleway/footway up the new Lincoln Road
  • Completed ditch and embankment construction on Lincoln Road, heading into Dunholme and Welton
  • Installed drainage connections across the new A46 to the southern ditch
  • Started installing street lighting cabling

What's happening in April

  • Start construction of retaining wall outside the car wash and Motorwise
  • Place street lighting cables and columns on the A46 and Lincoln Road
  • Lay final kerbing and construct remaining drainage on the south-side of the A46
  • Lay public right-of-way stone footpath from south-side of A46 to the new roundabout
  • Start the installation of fencing along the A46 and Lincoln Road

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • Temporary 30mph speed limit on the A46
  • Right-turn ban from A15 onto Heath Lane into Welton and from Heath Lane onto the A15 until the end of the project
  • Full road closure of Lincoln Road Welton until late April
  • Full closure of Horncastle Lane, at its junction with the A46, until late April
  • Temporary 24/7 traffic signals on the A46 until the end of the project

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Movement around the new roundabout, with narrowed lanes and temporary traffic signals in place, in late April
  • Night-time road closures on A46, Horncastle Lane and Lincoln Road for final road surfacing in early May (date and details to be shared closer to the time)
