Unsafe or unsuitable homes can increase the risk of injury and lead to physical and/or mental health problems.
That’s why the county council is committed to expanding the choices available, and to help deliver the best possible outcomes for the people of Lincolnshire.
In partnership with housing associations and district councils, the authority is investing £11.886 million to support the development of Extra Care Housing across the county, to respond to the demographic challenges of an increasingly ageing and diverse society.
Studies show that good health starts at home. Isolation and loneliness, together with inappropriate housing can have a significant impact on how long we live. Extra Care Housing is intended to enhance quality of life and achieve greater independence.
The impact of our home environment on our physical and mental health has since been heightened as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Construction is now underway at De Wint Court in Lincoln, a project in partnership with City of Lincoln Council. The scheme will deliver a new 70 apartment facility for the over 55s in the Boultham Moor area of Lincoln for affordable rent.
It will comprise of 50 one and 20 two-bedroom apartments and will feature on-site care staff, plus facilities such as a restaurant, well-being suite and salon. Construction is due to be completed in autumn 2021.

Glen Garrod, Executive Director of Adult Care and Community Wellbeing, said: “With the forecast increase of older aged people and vulnerable adults in the county, this will provide accommodation for older people who want to remain self-sufficient, but also have the option of on-site care. It will mean we can reinvest in preventative services, stopping people from becoming ill, whilst promoting wellbeing and independence.”
