In August, Lincoln Castle will be open until 8pm to give greater access for exercise, catch ups with friends and family, or to enjoy the view while having a picnic in the evening sun.
Cllr Lindsey Cawrey, executive councillor for heritage at Lincolnshire County Council, explains:
"We know how important Lincoln Castle is for our community, providing access for exercise, catch ups with friends and family and for people to get a welcome breath of fresh air during lockdown.
"We’re really happy to say that, since April this year alone, Lincoln Castle has welcomed over 100,000 visitors.
"Now the warmer evenings are arriving, we will be trialling opening our doors for longer.
"This gives us all the perfect opportunity to enjoy these amazing views or have a picnic with friends in the evening sun."
Nicola Lockwood, chair of the Bailgate Area Guild, adds: "We welcome the extension to the Castle's opening hours. It will provide a lovely venue for an evening stroll for visitors to the city and locals alike and will be a wonderful addition to the evening economy."
The Collection Museum in Lincoln will also open up to 8pm every Friday in August, to enable more visitors to see the world-renowned exhibition, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, on loan from the Natural History Museum.
Jenny Gleadell, Exhibitions and Interpretation Officer at The Collection, adds: "This is a wonderful opportunity to see exceptional images of animals from across the world, showing their fascinating behaviour, spectacular species and the breath-taking diversity of the natural world."
