The Collection Museum's popular Author Talks series are back at full-capacity with a bumper roster this autumn following on from a successful, Covid-secure, summer series.

The series, beginning in September, will feature talks from renowned authors and historians– Karen Maitland, Lucy Adlington, Dan Jones, James Holland, Bella Ellis, and Lucy Mangan.

On Sun 19 September, Karen Maitland will open the series when talking about her new novel: The Drowned City.

This story, the first in an exciting new series, introduces Daniel Pursglove, a prisoner waiting to die in Newgate. However, Charles FitzAlan, a close adviser to King James I, has a job that will set Daniel free, if he succeeds. Set in Bristol 1606, following a great wave which devastated the Bristol Channel, this story of spies, murderers, and thieves is a truly compelling historical thriller.

Karen will be available for book signings. Tickets start at £7 or £20 for a book and ticket deal.

On Tue 21 September, historian Lucy Adlington presents her new historical title: The Dressmakers of Auschwitz – The True Story of the Women Who Sewed to Survive.

This highly original work, drawing on a variety of sources - including interviews with the last surviving seamstress - introduces the reader to a little-known aspect of the Nazi occupation whilst simultaneously providing a uniquely female perspective of life in Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Bonds of family and friendship are highlighted to help endure the horrors of Nazi persecution but also to provide an outlet for resistance in the camp.

Lucy will be available for book signings. Tickets start at £7 and £23 for a book and ticket deal.

On Wed 29 September, historian and award-winning journalist Dan Jones will return to Lincoln with his latest non-fiction work: Powers and Thrones – A New History of the Middle Ages.

In this work Dan combines a gripping narrative style with excellent analysis, detailing the story of how successive western powers thrived by attracting – or stealing – the most valuable resources, ideas, and people from the rest of the world. This thousand-year adventure spans the sacking of Rome in AD 410 to the first contacts between the new and old worlds in the sixteenth century.

Dan has additionally written and hosted dozens of TV shows, including the critically acclaimed: Secrets of Great British Castles. He will be available for book signings. Tickets start at £7 and £28 for a book and ticket deal.

On Mon 4 October, historian James Holland will be discussing his new book: Brothers in Arms.

This expert analysis focuses on one of the greatest tank regiments, and the first British unit to cross into Nazi Germany – the Sherwood Rangers. After learning their trade on the battlefields of El Alamein and Alam el Halfa in North Africa, their engagements ranged from Gold Beach, during the Normandy landings on D-Day, to the bridges at Eindhoven, and the grinding crossing of the Seigfried Line. This work brings to life the final scramble across Europe from the powerful perspective of this hardened regiment.

James will be available for book signings. Tickets start at £7 and £28 for a book and ticket deal.

On Sat 9 October, Bella Ellis will be talking about her new book: The Diabolical Bones.

This latest release in The Bronte Mysteries series sees the Brontë sisters - Charlotte, Emily, and Anne - confronted with an increasingly complex and sinister case. Their investigations lead them into the dark world of workhouses and poor schools on the trail of lost, and likely murdered, children.

Bella Ellis is the penname of the Sunday Times best-selling author Rowan Coleman. Bella will be available for book signings. Tickets start at £7 and £12 for a book and ticket deal.

On Tue 19 October, Lucy Mangan will be discussing her new novel: Are We Having Fun Yet?

Are We Having Fun Yet? introduces Liz and her epic quest, as she faces all the storms of modern life – babysitters, death, and threadworms – to get a moment to herself. Mangan presents an uncannily accurate portrayal of the whirlwind of modern family in this side-splitting novel, as Liz attempts to make it through the year without completely losing it.

Lucy will be available for book signings. Tickets start at £7 and £24 for a book and ticket deal.

Paul Mason, visitor experience manager said: "We are delighted to announce our autumn Author Talks series at the Collection Museum, which allows authors an opportunity to share their work and experiences directly with the public.

"These events have always seen high demand so we would advise people to book in advance to avoid disappointment."
