If you’re looking for a rewarding professional career, there are so many different opportunities in care work in Lincolnshire.
With the chance to work with lots of different people and progress quickly, training and development is a real priority. Here we take a look at two of our county carers and find out more about what they do.
Laura Cook
Laura Cook loves her job! The 28-year-old started working at Ashdene Care Home, in Sleaford part-time, when she was just 18.
She’s found continuous progression opportunities whilst making a real difference to people’s lives.
Laura admits being affected by nerves during exams or interviews, so she says learning on the job was perfect for her, completing her NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care and a level 3 diploma in Health and Social Care, over three years.
“When I had completed my college courses I started working full-time and was offered the position of team leader in 2015,” said Laura.
“The position of deputy manager came up and I was encouraged to apply. With lots of support and encouragement, I was successful again.
“After 10 years at Ashdene I have been proud to make a positive impact on so many people. My next career step is a level 5 NVQ.”
Suzanne Brown
As soon as she left school, Suzanne Brown had a clear passion for working with people.
“My amazing journey into social care really began in 1999, when I moved to Lincolnshire and landed a job as a nursing assistant in Spalding,” said Suzanne.
“This gave me hands on experience with a variety of conditions including mild to severe disabilities, palliative care, end of life and full nursing care.
“With the support of the registered nurses I worked with, I gained my Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care. After having children, I needed to find suitable hours and working in community care screamed out as my next challenge.
“I could travel to work, supporting people to live safe and happy lives in their own homes. The responsibility seemed great, but the rewards far outweighed any doubts.”
“From 2012 I progressed to senior carer, medication trainer, and finally field care supervisor. Every day I can honestly say I am doing what I love.”
