The vital Skegness road now has a brand-new, fully-functioning drainage system in use.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Completing construction of the new underground drainage system along Roman Bank is a significant milestone for this important scheme.
“Not only did installing the system mean laying over half a mile of new drainage pipes up to 4.5m deep under the newly-rebuilt carriageway, but it also meant installing two new manhole chambers, 19 surface water catch pits and 85 drainage gullies.
“This new system will play a key role in taking surface water from the road and moving it to a nearby watercourse, helping to prevent flooding on the carriageway and nearby properties.”
Another significant milestone for the scheme is that all but one section is left to rebuild – from Brancaster Drive to the signalised junction just past Elmhirst Avenue.
Cllr Davies added: “With nearly all works between Muirfield Drive and Brancaster Drive now complete, the team has moved on to the final area of Roman Bank we’ll be rebuilding. Over the next three months, we’ll be excavating the old carriageway here and replacing it with 565 tonnes of new tarmac, in addition to replacing the footway.
“Work on-site is continuing to progress well and we’re still on track for having the scheme complete this spring.”
