The Collection Museum is pleased to announce a jam-packed programme of unique events and workshops happening alongside Luke Jerram’s enormous model Earth, ‘Gaia’.

Opening at Lincoln’s Collection Museum on Saturday 5 March, ‘Gaia’ will see a mesmerising 6m-wide sculpture of our planet brought to Lincoln for the first time. The globe is by the same artist behind ‘The Museum of the Moon’, the giant moon sculpture displayed at The Collection in 2019 and most-recently in Lincoln Cathedral.

Our Gaia events programme provides something for everyone, to help you get even more out of your visit.

There will be a series of Friday late-night openings with music and entertainment. And for those wanting a relaxing and enlightening visit, we’ll be hosting Sunday morning yoga sessions by the light of the Earth throughout March, April and May.

We’re also hosting a special virtual talk with the artist, Luke Jerram, where you can hear more about his works and his influences, on Friday 29 April from 6pm.

Andrea Martin, from The Collection Museum, said:

“The Museum of the Moon really captured the hearts and minds of visitors when it came to The Collection Museum in 2019, and I just know that the beauty of ‘Gaia’ will do the same this spring.

“One of the fantastic things about this exhibition is that it really does speak to everyone, which is why we’ve put a variety of different events alongside the exhibition; there really is something for everyone.

“We’re so excited to have an exclusive virtual talk from Luke during the exhibition too; he’s one of Britain’s most celebrated installation artists and it will be fascinating to hear more about the inspiration behind his incredible works.”

Measuring six metres in diameter, the internally-lit sphere of Luke Jerram’s Gaia is 2.1 million times smaller than the real Earth. It has been recreated from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth's surface and each centimetre of the sculpture represents 21km of our planet.

Visitors will be able to get up close to this incredible work at The Collection Museum in Lincoln from Saturday 5 March until Sunday 29 May 2022.
