We use CCTV to help keep school keep clear markings (zig-zag lines) free of parked vehicles.
These markings are there to:
- improve safety near schools
- reduce congestion at busy times
- increase compliance with parking rules
- support school crossing patrols
- provide data to help manage local traffic
How enforcement is carried out
Enforcement is carried out using both fixed cameras and a CCTV vehicle.
- Fixed cameras are installed outside some schools and operate automatically. Signs are in place to show where these are in use.
- The CCTV vehicle is clearly marked and driven by trained Civil Enforcement Officers. It is equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology.
What happens if a vehicle is parked illegally
If a vehicle is seen parking where it shouldn’t, the camera records video footage. This is reviewed by an officer to check if a contravention has taken place.
If a parking restriction has been breached, we’ll send a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) to the registered keeper of the vehicle. This will include photographic evidence and will be issued by post within 28 days.
