Your personal budget
If you are assessed as having eligible care needs, the planned support will have a cost which is called a personal budget. It allows you to:
- choose and control the support that is best for you
- be fully involved in decisions about the help you need to live independently
- support yourself in ways that suit you
You receive a personal budget based on the amount it will cost us to arrange your eligible unmet care needs. Your personal budget will be made up of the amount you have been assessed to pay and the amount we will contribute to your care costs.
How to request a care assessment
If you have tried ways to stay independent and still think you need further support, the first step would be to contact us for a conversation. Everyone is entitled to a care assessment if they feel they need support with care needs or to continue to live independently.

Am I entitled to help with my care costs
Care services are rarely free, and most people will have to pay something towards them. How much you’ll be asked to pay depends on:
- your income, including pensions and benefits
- your assets, including savings, property, investments and land
- your household expenditure, including mortgage, rent, Council Tax
- the care and support you need
If you receive care, you may be eligible to claim one of the following benefits. (If you are not already receiving one):
- Attendance Allowance (AA) – for people who have reached State Pension age
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP) – for those below State Pension age
How do you work out my personal budget
We will ask you to complete a financial assessment to work out the likely cost of your assessed needs and how much we can provide towards it.
