Register an event that affects the highway

If you’re planning an event in Lincolnshire that affects public roads or pavements, even temporarily, you must let Lincolnshire County Council know. This is so we can help keep road users, pedestrians and emergency services safe, and make sure the road network continues to run smoothly.

Do I need to register?

You must register your event if it could:

  • require a road closure or a temporary traffic restriction
  • affect pedestrian or road user safety
  • increase local parking demand
  • restrict access for emergency vehicles
  • clash with planned roadworks
  • cause heavier traffic in the area

Most event registrations must be submitted at least 13 weeks in advance. For small street parties, you need to give 6 weeks’ notice.

Things to consider before you apply

Winter events (Oct–April)

Your event may overlap with our gritting routes. Please check the Winter road management map. If gritters can’t safely access the roads during the event, you will need to arrange gritting yourself or put clear signage in place.

Parking bays

If your event affects on-street parking bays, these may need to be suspended. Use the Parking Restriction Map to see which bays are in your event area. You’ll need to note the locations and may need to request a parking bay waiver.

Vehicles parked in suspended bays could receive a Penalty Charge Notice.

Street furniture and bollards

If your event requires the removal of existing street furniture, bollards or similar items to allow access or facilitate activities, you must apply in advance. Applications should be made through FixMyStreet.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTROs)

If you need to close a road or place any equipment, structures or marshals on the highway, you’ll need a TTRO. These can also include temporary speed limits or loading restrictions.

Because of the legal process involved, TTRO applications must be submitted at least 10 weeks before the event.

Even if your event isn’t physically on the road, you may still need temporary restrictions if pedestrian or traffic movement is affected.

What happens next?

Once you register your event, we’ll share the details with:

  • emergency services
  • relevant County Council teams
  • District Safety Advisory Group (SAG) chairs

This helps everyone to coordinate safety planning.
