River Witham Historic Flood Events

Request

As part of a Flood Risk Assessment for the ongoing project, I have some questions that It would be very useful to get your input to:

1. Does the council hold any records on historic flood events along the River Witham or any other incidents related to flooding, whether fluvial or surface water/other source in nature?

2. Is the council aware of any other schemes in the River Witham catchment that may be of relevance to this study/ assessment?

3. Any other information the council may hold that is relevant to considering the flood risk to/ from the River Witham and surrounding area.

Decision

1. Please refer to the following for a summary of completed S19 flood investigations undertaken by Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) as Lead local Flood Authority (LLFA), with further context and information on their requirement: Flood investigations – Lincolnshire County Council.

2. LCC as LLFA are not currently undertaking any schemes in the vicinity of the study site. However, it would be advised that contact is made with the Environment Agency and / or East Mercia Rivers Trust with regards to the River Witham as a designated main river and any potential schemes.

3. Please refer to the Find flood risk assets – Lincolnshire County Council, which displays, where possible, known flood risk assets which may have a significant impact on flooding. Furthermore, consideration may be given to datasets from other organisations, if not already, such as the Environment Agency’s Asset Information and Maintenance Programme and Check the long term flood risk for an area in England - GOV.UK
