The A46 Nettleham Roundabout improvement project would include:
- adding an extra roundabout lane, as well as new entrance and exit lanes
- building a new footbridge / cycle bridge over the roundabout’s A15 East leg
- installing new drainage and street lighting at the roundabout
Aims and benefits
- reduced congestion on the A46 near Lincoln
- improved journey times for those travelling in and around the surrounding area
- increased safety between Nettleham and Lincoln for those not travelling by car
- future-proof the roundabout so it can support increased traffic growth in years to come
- less standing traffic, leading to improved air quality and less carbon emissions
- improved connectivity to the Humber ports and Lincolnshire coast
- support the delivery of housing and employment by providing better links between communities
- benefit local businesses in the agri-food sector
Cost and funding
The estimated cost will be approximately £10 million.
The Nettleham Roundabout improvement scheme, part of the Lincoln Connectivity Improvement Project, will be part-funded by the £20 million in capital funding allocated to the county council as part of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority devolution deal in 2024. The remaining cost will be funded by us.
Timeline
- July 2024: Public information event held
- Autumn 2025*: Planning application submitted
- Winter 2025*: Planning decision by county council’s Planning and Regulation Committee
- Spring 2026*: Main construction starts
- Spring 2027*: Project completion
