An overview of progress on the North Hykeham Relief Road project.

What we achieved in August

  • Continued site clearance, fencing, topsoil strip and preparation works across the scheme
  • Continued haul road construction and access works across key sections of the route
  • Moved into new offices at the A46 compound 
  • Progressed bulk excavation and earthworks embankment construction at Grantham Road / Lincoln Cliff and across the scheme
  • Excavated several attenuation ponds and ditches across the scheme
  • Commenced material processing adjacent to Grantham Road
  • Drainage works on ponds and outfalls, including pipework and headwalls
  • Construction of Temporary bridge over River Witham 
  • Installation and testing of trial piles for Station Road, Wath Lane and River Witham structures
  • Mobilised and commenced main piling to Station Road Bridge
  • Construction of the compound area at Station Road and Brant Road 
  • Delivered social impact activities, including Lincoln Industry Day supporting STEM ambassadors and Poacher event with scouts/guides/rangers. 
  • Scaffold and mist curtain installed off Grantham Road
  • Construction and surfacing works of new Somerton Gate Lane alignment
  • Completed diversion of Anglian Water apparatus at South Hykeham Road
  • Completed National Grid electricity diversions across the scheme
  • Plant crossings operational at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road and Station Road

What’s happening in September

  • Progress site clearance/topsoil strip and preparation works across the scheme
  • Continue bulk earthworks and embankment construction across the scheme
  • Continue material processing at Grantham Road / Lincoln Cliff
  • Continue excavation into Lincoln Cliff 
  • Continue works to attenuation ponds, ditches and outfalls, including pipework and headwall installation
  • Recommence demolition of the remaining 2 properties on Station Road.
  • Continue piling works at Station Road, Wath Lane Accommodation Bridge, Bat Bridge and River Witham
  • Continue utility diversions with National Grid and Anglian Water across the scheme
  • Continue dust mitigation measures
  • Continue mud mitigation, including sweepers around site to clear away mud on roads
  • Prepare work areas for future construction phases
  • Complete Grantham Road plant crossing and make operational
  • Installation of satellite compounds

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • Various alterations to Public Rights of Way near to where the relief road is being built
  • Closure of Somerton Gate Lane 
    • Diversion route via Hill Top / Station Road / Brant Road.
    • Access will be maintained for residents, the allotments, and local businesses from the Station Road / Hill Top end. 
  • Live plant crossings and reduced speed limits at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road and Station Road
  • Two-way lights and reduced speed limits at Grantham Road
