An overview of progress on the North Hykeham Relief Road project.
What we achieved in October
- Continued site clearance, fencing, topsoil strip and preparation works across the scheme
- Continued haul road construction and access works across key sections of the route
- Progressed bulk excavation and earthworks embankment construction at Grantham Road / Lincoln Cliff and across the scheme
- Excavated attenuation ponds and drainage ditches across the scheme
- Continued material processing adjacent to Grantham Road, with reuse of material on other sections
- Drainage works to ponds, including pipework and headwalls
- Installation of piped culverts across the scheme
- Completed piling at Station Road with piles cropped and work started on structure
- Began piling at River Witham and continued ground improvement piling to west of River Witham
- Started vegetation clearance around A46 Pennells Roundabout
- Utilities diversions on Station Road and Brant Road
- Installation of satellite compounds, powered via solar panels
- Social value activities carried out, including charity football match raising £600 for hospitals charity, installation of white fencing at Auborn and Haddington boundaries, and attending annual careers fair at Boston Grammar School
What’s happening in November
- Continue bulk earthworks and embankment construction across the scheme
- Continue material processing at Grantham Road/Lincoln Cliff and excavation into Lincoln Cliff
- Continue drainage works, installation of culverts and pipe work
- Continue piling works across the project
- Continue construction of reinforced concrete structure works to Station Road bridge and Wath Lane Accommodation Bridge
- Continue utility diversions across the scheme
- Continue mud mitigation measures – two sweepers around the site and manual sweeping of pavement at Station Road
- Prepare work areas for future construction phases
- Continue vegetation clearance at A46 roundabout overnight
Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures
- Various alterations to Public Rights of Way near to where the relief road is being built
- Live plant crossings and reduced speed limits at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road, Station Road and Grantham Road
Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures
- w/c 2nd November – single lane closure on approaches to A46 Pennells Roundabout for vegetation clearance
- Monday 16 November for up to one month – temporary traffic lights on A607 Grantham Road for Anglian Water utility diversions
- Monday 4 January 2027 for up to seven weeks – 24/7 inbound-only closure on Newark Road, towards Lincoln, at the A46/A1434 Pennells Roundabout
- Outbound traffic leaving Lincoln will remain open
- Diversion route via the A46 northbound and the A57/Saxilby Road, with local signage in place to direct traffic travelling to North Hykeham and south Lincoln
