Lincolnshire preparing to head to the polls in May

Polling stations will be safe places to vote in May.

County council, city council, and Police and Crime Commissioner elections will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021.

You can find a list of candidates standing in the Lincolnshire County Council elections on our website.

In the county and city council elections, you should put a cross next to the one candidate you want to vote for.

Votes in the county and city council elections will be counted on Friday 7 May.

In the police and crime commissioner election, you can make a first and second choice when you vote.

If no candidate gets more than 50% of the first choice votes, all except the top two candidates are eliminated. If your first choice candidate is eliminated, and your second choice is for one of the top two, your second choice is counted.

Votes in the police and crime commissioner election will be counted on Saturday 8 May.

Voting in person

Polls will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 6 May 2021.

Safety measures will be put in place at polling stations to keep voters safe. You will need to wear a mask, and you should bring your own pen or pencil to mark your ballots.

Your polling station may be different this year, so please check your poll card carefully, although you do not need to bring it with you to vote.

Voting by post

If you are registered to vote by post, you should receive your postal ballot soon. Follow the instructions carefully to complete your ballot, and then return it as soon as you can.

If you can't return your postal vote in time, you can take it your local polling station on election day.

Voting by proxy

If you can't vote in person, you can get someone else to vote for you. This is called a proxy vote.

If you are registered to vote and want to vote by proxy, you must submit a proxy vote application form that is received by your district council's election office before 5pm on Tuesday 27 April.

If you have to self-isolate on the day, you can apply for an emergency proxy vote up until 5pm on election day. Please contact your district council's election team to do that.
