When complete, the project will form the first section of the Spalding Western Relief Road.

Main construction is expected to start on Monday 10 January 2022 and is expected to last until Autumn 2023 (subject to weather and any unforeseen circumstances).

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "Now that preparatory works are complete and all the land agreements are now finalised, we're less than a month away from starting construction of the northern section of the new Spalding Western Relief Road.

"As part of the works, our contractor Eurovia will be building a new five-arm roundabout on the Spalding Road, a T-junction next to Vernatt's Drain and a new bridge over the Lincoln to Peterborough rail line.”

When main construction starts in January, the works will mostly be taking place away from local roads.

However, from Autumn 2022, a combination of road closures and temporary traffic signals will be used as needed for a period of time, including on Enterprise Way and Spalding Road. More specific dates and details will be shared once finalised and confirmed.

Please note that Two Plank Bridge, its connecting footpath and the footpath on the Wygate estate across the rail line will be closed for up to 18 months starting on Monday 10 January 2022.

Cllr Davies continued: "The first several months of construction will mostly be taking place away from local roads, so those travelling in and around Spalding shouldn't expect any disruption apart from seeing construction vehicles moving around near the site and some instances of temporary traffic management for utility diversions.

"However, as part of the scheme, we'll be installing nearly 3,000 underground pile foundations to support the new bridge. Some of this work may be noisy, but we'll be doing everything we can to keep this to a minimum including only carrying these works out in the day and using a special hoarding to lessen the noise.

"I want to thank everyone in advance for bearing with us.”
