Pupil attendance, absence and alternative provision notifications

Suspension or permanent exclusion

Schools and other settings are required to inform the local authority without delay of all school exclusions regardless of the length of the exclusion.

Suspension and permanent exclusion guidance

Where a child in care is likely to be subject to a suspension or permanent exclusion, the designated teacher (DT) should contact the local authority’s virtual school head (VSH) as soon as possible.

Notifications must include the reasons for suspension or permanent exclusion and the duration of any suspension or, in the case of a permanent exclusion the fact that it is permanent.

A suspension can also be for part of the school day for example if a pupil’s behaviour at lunchtime is disruptive, they may be suspended.

For further advice surrounding suspensions and exclusion please visit the pupil reintegration team or contact us.
