T-Levels
As part of National Apprenticeship Week and T-Level Thursday celebrations, Matt Fairweather, Principal Engineer, shares his perspective on why hosting these placements is so important.
“We decided to host T-level placements as part of our approach to recruit locally and promote civil engineering. By providing students with hands-on experience, we help develop their skills and offer them a path toward employment and apprenticeships within our organisation.
To ensure students like Olaf feel motivated and confident, we provide thorough inductions, give them a variety of tasks and training, and coordinate their placement activities with their school curriculum. This not only keeps the work diverse and interesting but also helps them grow in a supportive, friendly work environment.
We’re excited to see how these placements shape students’ futures. For Olaf, we’re hoping this experience leads to a career in civil engineering, and possibly within LCC. The placement gives him valuable insights into the industry, and we’re proud to contribute to his professional development.”
Here’s what Olaf shared about his T-level experience to date.
“A T-level is a great opportunity to dive into a specific field because it offers practical, hands-on experience. It’s not just about learning theory but applying it in real-world situations. If you’re certain about your career path, a T-level placement is a valuable opportunity to gain experience in that field.”
