Spalding Active Travel Improvements
The Spalding Active Travel ‘Levelling Up’ improvement project in Spalding included:
Phase One: building a 3m wide footway/cycleway near the skatepark at Fulney Avenue to the southside of Holbeach Road; adding a dropped crossing to the northside of Holbeach Road; and resurfacing the footway/cycleway on Holbeach Road up to the Camel Gate roundabout
Phase Two: building a brand-new 240-metre link along the Coronation Bank from Holbeach Road to the shopping outlet car park
Aims and benefits
- safer and more reliable sustainable travel options in Spalding
- make it easier for people to walk or cycle
- improve connectivity via the area’s footways and cycleways
- new surfacing on the existing shared use path on Holbeach Road
- improve connections to the Springfield Outlet area
Cost and funding
The project cost was £530,000, which will be funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021.
Timeline
- June 2021: Funding bid submitted to government
- October 2021: £20 million in ‘Levelling Up’ funding granted to Lincolnshire
- March 2022: Feasibility reports for each project complete
- September 2022: Pre-works, including vegetation clearance, ground investigations and drainage surveys, begin
- July 2023: Phase One works begin
- September 2023: Phase One works complete
- February 2025: Phase Two works begin
- April 2025: Phase Two works complete
